Republicans Split Over Tax Bill
Before they unveil their tax bill, someone should probably tell Republican leaders that not everyone in their conference is on board with it. Republican Rep. Peter King (NY-02) was on Morning Joe this morning, where he expressed doubt that the GOP tax bill they are rushing through the House will help middle class families and flagged that Trump supporters are feeling “betrayed”:
“Whatever we do is going to really impact generations to come, and yet when it was done 30 years ago, about two years of debate before the bill was finally voted on. Now we're going to be voting on this in two weeks - no one has seen it yet.”
“This can have either catastrophic consequences for my district, or who knows, maybe it could help my district, I don't know cause I haven’t seen it.”
“I don't know how you can digest a bill of a thousand pages with all the loopholes that could be in there, with all the exceptions that could be in there and all the unforeseen consequences that can be in there.”
“…This to me is being rushed through and could have a real impact on my district. The people it affects in my district are the Trump voters…The people I’m hearing from the most are Trump supporters and these are again, middle income people, hardworking people - cops, firemen, construction workers…They feel they're being betrayed.”
