Message from the Democratic Whip
Yesterday, House Republicans passed a short-term bill to fund the government for two weeks. While they should have spent the last three months working with Democrats on a bill to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year, they have instead wasted that time working on their partisan tax bill instead of getting the people’s business done.
They have also ignored a number of other important priorities that must be addressed before the end of the year. In the next two weeks, we must reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program and other health extenders, pass the DREAM Act to protect DREAMers, reauthorize the Perkins student loan program, provide disaster relief funding for our fellow Americans rebuilding following hurricanes and wildfires, among other priorities. I will continue to call on Republicans to work with Democrats in a bipartisan fashion to get this work done in the coming days.
Finally, this week is the last week of open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act. I encourage everyone to review their coverage options and choose a plan for you and your family before December 15th. Since the Administration has slashed funding for outreach and education efforts about open enrollment, I encourage you to remind your family and friends of this upcoming deadline.
