Questions for Speaker Ryan
Your ever-helpful Democratic Whip press shop thought we’d send you a few questions to ask Speaker Ryan at his tax reform speech this afternoon (you’re welcome):
- How do you plan to get tax reform done when the House GOP hasn’t even proposed a budget, which Republicans said was necessary in order to use reconciliation to get tax reform through the Senate?
- How does a massive tax cut to the wealthy, such as the one in TrumpCare, create jobs for American families?
- How big of a tax cut will President Trump receive?
- Will Republicans adhere to the “Mnuchin rule” that the wealthy won’t receive a net tax cut?
- Will your tax cuts be paid for, or will you instead allow them to explode the deficit?
- If your tax cuts fail to spur the economy and explode the deficit, as economic history would indicate, will you raise taxes to close the gap – as happened in Kansas?
- You claim that you’ll eliminate loopholes used by the wealthy – which ones?
- Have you even considered working with Democrats to draft bipartisan tax reform?
And while you’ve got him, a few other questions you could ask:
- As the former Budget Committee Chairman, and someone who spoke frequently about the importance of a budget, how can you defend not doing a budget this year?
- Are you going to allow a vote on a clean debt limit extension before the August recess to ensure America doesn’t default?
