President Trump is Raising Health Care Costs

In the words of health insurers themselves, President Trump’s actions are raising Americans’ health care costs. Both Politico Pro and CNBC outline conversations with health insurers and a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation articulating that Americans will pay more for their health insurance in 2018 due to President Trump’s decision to halt vital cost-sharing reduction payments. It’s yet another example of President Trump’s sabotage of the ACA and why GOP leaders should bring the Alexander-Murray bill to the Floor for a vote.

From Politico Pro:

“Premiums are skyrocketing in part because of President Donald Trump's decision to scrap cost-sharing-reduction payments, which insurers utilize to lower the out-of-pocket costs for low-income Obamacare customers. Most insurers are jacking up rates next year - often by 15 percent or more — to compensate for the removal of federal funding.”

And CNBC:

“Insurers slapped surcharges of anywhere from 7 to 38 percent onto premiums for Obamacare's most popular type of plans because of threats for months by President Donald Trump to end reimbursement payments to insurers, a new report says.”
