Paging House Republicans: Your Constituents Aren't Happy About #TrumpCare

While Republicans celebrate jamming #TrumpCare through the House of Representatives, their constituents back home are voicing very real concerns about the adverse impact the bill will have on themselves and their families:

California’s 21st District: David Valadao, Kevin McCarthy vote for health-care bill; critics include governor

“‘Valadao’s vote today puts my life and the lives of the people like me at risk,’ said Juanita Chavez of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, who has a pre-existing medical condition. ‘There will be massive rate hikes for people with pre-existing conditions.’”

“Pedro Naveiras said he is one of the many people who will be affected by Valadao’s vote. ‘He sold out his district. He sold out his constituents for a partisan Republican vote.’”

Virginia’s 2nd District: Crowd gathers in Virginia Beach to protest Rep. Taylor, GOP healthcare bill

Protesters gathered at Town Center Thursday evening to hold a candlelight vigil after the House of Representatives, including Rep. Scott Taylor, voted to pass a bill to repeal Obamacare. Dozens of people gathered in a circle within downtown Virginia Beach following the vote.”

Florida’s 26th District: Constituents Call Curbelo's ACA Repeal Vote a "Declaration of War" on His District

“‘Stop the shams, stop the lies, we are fighting for our lives,’ chanted a group of activists and constituents outside Carlos Curbelo’s southwest Miami-Dade office on Bird Rd. Wednesday, shortly before the vote.”

“’If Curbelo votes in favor of this bill, it will be a betrayal to the people in this community,’ said Lorenzo Canizares, who lives in Curbelo’s district.”

Maine’s 2nd District: Crowd Outside Bruce Poliquin’s Bangor Office Opposes Health Care Plan

“More than two-dozen people lined up outside Republican U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin’s office in Bangor today to oppose a congressional vote on a bill that seeks to replace the Obamacare health plan.”

“Joe Baldacci, Bangor’s mayor, said Mainers have a lot to lose if the Republican health care bill that narrowly passed in the House is approved in the Senate. ‘Bangor hospitals, just the ones here in town, are going to lose $62 million in revenue…In addition there are 2,000 people that reside in Bangor who receive coverage and they’re likely not to receive coverage under this new plan.’”

West Virginia’s 1st District: Citizens protest in front of McKinley's office

“Thursday night in front of McKinley's office in Morgantown, concerned citizens gathered to voice their opinion on the recent vote. They told us why they didn't support it, and expressed they were upset one of their representatives voted in favor of it.”

Michigan’s 6th District: U.S. Rep. Fred Upton's support of GOP health care bill sparks protest

“Some constituents of U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, are not happy with his yes vote on the GOP health care legislation, which they made clear with multiple protests at his Kalamazoo office.”

“Jessica Martin, vice president of the Young Democrats of Michigan, said she felt betrayed by Upton's new stance. ‘He's falsely representing the 6th district,’ she said. Martin, who has preexisting conditions, is also worried about her access to healthcare with a repeal of the ACA.”

Missouri’s 7th District: Worried Missourians Protest Health Care Vote

“…Missourians who are worried about the future of their health care were protesting that same vote outside of Congressman Billy Long's office in Springfield.”

“‘We were finally in a place where we didn't have to worry about being priced out of insurance,’ said Crystal Brigman Mahaney with Missouri Health Care for All.”

“‘It's going to make it very difficult to have access to care for many people in our nation,’ said Rev. Phil Snider, a senior minister at Brentwood Christian Church, who joined protesters outside Long's office… ‘It does nothing for those who are truly in need of help,’ said Rev. Snider.”

New York’s 19th District: In swift response, constituents call out Faso on AHCA

Dozens of concerned constituents gathered outside of Faso’s Kinderhook office Thursday morning to protest the congressman’s promised yes vote. Some of the people are involved in local citizens groups such as Indivisible Chatham and Indivisible Hudson, they said.”

“Erin Stamper, of Chatham, was concerned 24 million people would lose access to health care if the AHCA goes through, she said.”

“‘I am so angry about the deliberate destruction of the ACA and it’s protection for people with pre-existing conditions…’ Christopher Brown, of Delhi, said.”

“Wendy Kerner, of Ghent, is a breast cancer survivor and felt lucky to have been able to have the cancer discovered during a mammogram and receive treatment, she said Thursday… When Kerner told Faso her story, he listened and then told her she would not have to worry under the new bill, Kerner said. ‘I said, well I’m fine today, but what about everyone else, or tomorrow? He didn’t have answers for that,’ Kerner said.”

Ohio’s 12th District: Ohioans protest healthcare bill at Rep. Tiberi’s Columbus office

Protesters gathered outside the Worthington offices of Republican Rep. Pat Tiberi.”

“Dr. Greg Lam, a cardiologist from Circleville, said publicly protesting was a first for him. ‘It’s going to take money away from the poor and from middle income patients and it’s going to give it to the rich and the pharmaceutical companies and the insurance companies…I just think morally – that’s wrong. So I’m here to stand up for my patients.’”
