Morning Roundup: No Details on Tax Reform

A look at this morning’s previews of Speaker Ryan’s “major speech” on tax reform shows it will be light on specifics and substance. Sounds kind of like a certain one-page proposal a certain President released…

From the New York Times:

“According to his office, Mr. Ryan will not go into great detail about where he stands on the various tax proposals that have been dividing Republicans for months, but he will provide a broad outline of his thinking.”

From the Wall Street Journal:

“Mr. Ryan, in a speech to manufacturers in Washington, isn’t expected to delve into the details that divide Republicans or the negotiations between the Trump administration and members of Congress.”

From CNBC:

“His office said the speaker, often deemed a policy wonk, would not delve into the weeds or defend the controversial border adjustment tax.”

From The Hill:

“The speech is unlikely to go into the granular specifics of a tax bill.”
