Martin Luther King III Meets with Democratic Whip Task Force on Poverty, Income Inequality, and Opportunity

WASHINGTON, DC – On Wednesday, July 8, Martin Luther King III, son of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King and President of Drum Major Institute, met with the Democratic Whip Task Force on Poverty, Income Inequality, and Opportunity to discuss ways to reduce poverty and promote private investment in developing a more competitive workforce in disadvantaged areas.  Mr. King traveled from Atlanta to share with members of the Task Force his Realize the Dream plan to build partnerships between organizations and programs focusing on poverty alleviation.  This is the Task Force’s third meeting since the 114th Congress convened. 

“Our Task Force was honored to have Mr. King join us today to speak about his father’s legacy and his own work to carry that legacy forward,” stated Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer. “We continue to search for innovative ways to promote opportunity and reduce poverty, and we appreciated hearing Mr. King’s insights from his many years as an advocate and organizational leader. I look forward to continuing to work with him to stand up for justice and help create good jobs that pay well and offer more Americans a secure place in our middle class.”
