WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement this afternoon:
“Today, pursuant to the Trade Promotion Authority Act of 2002 (TPA), I introduced the implementing legislation for the U.S.-Columbia Trade Promotion Agreement. TPA incorporates the so-called ‘fast track’ procedural requirements of Section 151 of the Trade Act of 1974, including the requirement that the Majority Leader introduce an implementing bill submitted by the President.
“While I am committed to fulfilling my statutory requirements as Majority Leader, I remain concerned about a number of unresolved issues related to this important agreement. I regret that the President sent the implementing bill to Congress prior to us first reaching bipartisan agreement on how to move forward.”
