Let's Review
As the Senate begins debate on the Floor on the GOP tax scam – which will affect every American – there’s still a lot that we don’t know about the Senate bill. While we know the bill will increase taxes on 82 million middle-class households, here’s the information we still *don’t* have as the Senate debates their bill:
- We don’t have a dynamic score from the Joint Committee on Taxation.
- We don’t know if there will be a conference committee – seems pretty likely the House could pass whatever the Senate passes (that should give our Senate Republican friends pause).
- We don’t have a fix from the Energy Committee after the bill missed its deficit target.
- We haven’t seen a combing of the bill to ensure that non-germane aspects of the bill aren’t included. [Byrd rule, anyone?]
- We don’t know how the SALT provision will be paid for.
- We don’t have details about pass-through provisions.
- We don’t know anything about the new “trigger” proposal. Will it cut spending? How will it work?
- We don’t know how this bill will affect President Trump’s taxes.
