THE LEADER'S REPORT: WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 27, 2010

This week, House Democrats continued to pursue our Make It In America agenda by passing several bills that will help create jobs and increase manufacturing in the U.S. One key bill would hold China accountable for its unfair currency policy that makes prices of Chinese products artificially low in the U.S. This legislation will level the playing field and make American manufacturers more competitive. Also this week, the House passed a measure to provide care and compensation to first responders and others who were exposed to the toxins of Ground Zero following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. We fought hard to pass this bill that will give the heroes of 9/11 the comprehensive care they deserve.

 

House Democrats also worked to keep our nation safe by passing an Intelligence Authorization Act that strengthens our national security and bolsters oversight of the intelligence community. The bill is headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law.  

 

The House will return to session in November to continue our work, and Democrats’ top priority will be to ensure that middle class families do not see a tax increase next year.
