| Tonight, the House passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act, a comprehensive plan for a cleaner, more energy independent future. With this historic legislation, we make significant strides to revitalize our economy by creating millions of new jobs, increase our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and preserve our planet by reducing the pollution that causes global warming. | Leader Hoyer joins Speaker Pelosi and House Leaders

This week, the House also passed the National Defense Authorization Act, which is a serious effort to reprioritize our defense spending to focus on the real and immediate threats our nation and our troops face. This bill authorizes investments in resources that keep Americans safe, support U.S. service members, protect our national interests, and eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in the contracting process. Over the next week, Members will be in their districts discussing the energy bill just passed and health care reform, important priorities of President Obama and the American people. For more information on the progress of health care, visit our health care reform website and sign up to receive "The Daily Dose." When we return in July, we will continue our work on health care reform, and it is my hope that we will bring legislation to the House Floor before August. I also expect that the House will consider "pay-as-you-go" legislation, which will help restore fiscal responsibility so that we can invest sustainably in some of our most important priorities. | |
