"I've never rooted so much for failure"

We all know that TrumpCare isn’t popular, but CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield’s CEO Chet Burrell had some tough words for the GOP about TrumpCare and their efforts to sabotage the Affordable Care Act. Highlights here:

“But with President Trump promising to ‘let Obamacare fail,’ it's no time for those who opposed the congressional replacement bills to celebrate, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield CEO Chet Burrell warned this week.”

“‘I've never rooted so much for failure,’ said Burrell, CEO of the region's largest insurance company, who had previously warned about a 'catastrophic' scenario. ‘We saw the proposed legislation as very harmful. If you're in the business, as we are, to get access to health care, the bill had the opposite effect.’"

“‘They're in effect saying to people it has no consequence if you don't get coverage,’ Burrell said.”

“Burrell also raised concerns about uncertainty over cost sharing reductions funding. The reductions are subsidies that reduce the amount customers at qualifying income levels receive for their deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.”

“‘We're expecting to hear in the next day or so if they'll continue to fund them for another month,’ he said. ‘But if the funding were to dry up at some point, then you really do make it unaffordable for the low income individuals. That will have a disastrous effect we think.’"

“Burrell said he does not expect a congressional ACA repeal to come up again should it fail as expected during a vote next week. He said he hopes it will finally push members of Congress to work together to ‘fix what we have’ rather than focusing on ways to undermine it.”
