WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) urged House Republican leaders to schedule a vote to reopen the Export-Import Bank during a colloquy with Majority Leader McCarthy today. Below is an excerpt from the colloquy and a link to the video:

Whip Hoyer: “I know [Majority Leader McCarthy] doesn't want us to lose jobs. I know he is quoted as saying that the people's voice ought to be heard. I know that he shares [the belief] with me that this is the people's House. And I ask the gentleman, it's not on the schedule next week, but does the gentleman expect the Export-Import Bank to be voted on in this House before the end of this month? And I yield to my friend.”

Majority Leader McCarthy: “Well, I thank the gentleman and, you know, in honor of the late Yogi Berra, it's like déjà vu all over again. There's no action scheduled in the House on Ex-Im, and I yield back.”

Whip Hoyer: “Mr. Speaker, that's the answer I expected. That's the answer I’ve been getting and, very frankly, that's the answer this House has been getting. I know some of my Republican friends are very frustrated by that answer, and I know all of our side is frustrated by that answer. I say respectfully to my friend, I would certainly hope that we could bring that bill to the Floor. Win or lose, whether you win or I win or the Export-Import Bank is reauthorized or not, you're correct – the voice of the people should be heard on such a critical issue for jobs in this country.”
