WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of World AIDS Day:
“World AIDS Day is a time to reflect on those lost to this horrible disease and recommit ourselves to the work of ending it. We can’t do that if we cut back on investments in public health and medical research, which is why I will continue to support robust funding for PEPFAR, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other agencies and organizations that are leading the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“Congress has a responsibility to lead in keeping Americans healthy, stopping the spread of disease around the world, and ensuring those who are infected have access to life-saving medications and the ability to live with dignity. As we mark World AIDS Day 2016, let us continue to advance these goals and work to end the scourge of HIV/AIDS everywhere.”
