WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of the 27th World AIDS Day:
“On this World AIDS Day, we stand in solidarity with those who are living with HIV/AIDS and remember the lives lost in communities across our country and throughout the world. The search for a cure must continue unabated, and it requires a national commitment to supporting research and helping patients afford life-saving medications. I’ve been proud of my votes in Congress to invest in HIV/AIDS research, help make medications more accessible to Americans who have the disease, promote prevention education, and continue the PEPFAR program that expands access to treatment in parts of Africa hit hardest by AIDS. I was also proud to stand with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the bipartisan Ryan White CARE Act twenty-five years ago and reauthorize it in subsequent years.
“Together, we must keep fighting to end HIV/AIDS and bring hope to millions who show courage and determination in living with it each day. Let’s mark this World AIDS Day by recommitting ourselves to the task of eradicating HIV/AIDS here at home and around the world once and for all.”
