WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen declined to issue a temporary injuction on a lawsuit to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, allowing DACA renewals to continue:

“While yesterday’s ruling will allow DACA renewals to continue, DREAMers, their families, and their communities deserve to have long-term certainty that these young people can remain here and continue to contribute to our nation’s future.  It is shameful that the Republican-led Congress refuses to take action and allow a vote on a permanent solution to allow DREAMers to remain in the only country they know as home and have a pathway to citizenship. I will continue working with my colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to counter the Trump Administration’s malign policies that seek to divide our country and tear families apart, and we will continue to advocate for a permanent legislative solution to protect DREAMers.”
