WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight on the Trump Administration's latest attempt to sabotage the Affordable Care Act by refusing to defend the law in court:

“It is abhorrent that the Trump Administration would try to use the courts to repeal the Affordable Care Act after failing to do so through legislation.  Since it was fully implemented in 2014, the law has been effective and has brought real benefits to Americans, including lowering out-of-pocket costs, improving quality of care, and safeguarding access for 133 million with pre-existing conditions.

“By refusing to execute and defend the law, the Trump Administration intends to allow insurers once again to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions. To use the American people’s Justice Department in an effort to overturn that fundamental protection - and with it all the others in the law - is wrong. Democrats will continue to fight Republican attempts to undermine and repeal the Affordable Care Act and to sabotage Americans’ access to quality, affordable health care.”
