WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Trump Administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status for 50,000 Haitians living in the United States:

“I am extremely disappointed that the Trump Administration is ending Temporary Protected Status for Haitians. Given the ongoing economic, political, and health challenges facing the country of Haiti, there is agreement on both sides of the aisle that TPS ought to be extended for more than 50,000 Haitians residing in the United States. Yet, President Trump is once again putting his strident anti-immigrant agenda ahead of moral, humane, and rational policy. I strongly urge him to reconsider his decision.”
