WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after the Supreme Court declined to hear the Trump Administration's appeal of a decision blocking President Trump's executive order ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“The Supreme Court’s rejection of the Trump Administration’s request to expedite the deportation of hundreds of thousands of young DREAMers does not mean Congress has any less urgency to resolve this crisis of the President’s own making. This is particularly true given that the Court’s rejection merely requires the Administration to accept renewal applications but not new ones, leaving many DACA-eligible young people without recourse.
“As a result of the President’s decision to end the DACA program, DREAMers are at risk of losing their jobs and being forcibly separated from their loved ones. Democrats will continue to insist that the House and Senate work on reaching a legislative solution that allows DREAMers to remain here and provides them with a pathway to citizenship so that they can continue contributing to the nation they love and call home and that our communities can continue to benefit from their contributions.”
