WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in response to the decision of a U.S. District Judge in Texas in the case of the State of Texas v. United States of America related to President Obama's immigration actions:
"I was disappointed that a judge in Texas issued a stay this morning to delay the President's executive actions on deferred action. However, I remain confident that our courts will reaffirm what they have previously ruled: that the President has the authority to set priorities for the enforcement of our immigration laws and that they will allow the DAPA and expanded DACA programs to move forward.
"Our nation's immigration system is broken, and ultimately it will be up to Congress to fix it. The President's actions reflect a need to keep families together in the absence of legislative progress. I continue to urge the Republicans who control Congress to work with Democrats to bring a bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill to the Floor."
