WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement this morning on the shooting in Jacksonville, Florida yesterday afternoon:
“I have been monitoring the situation in Jacksonville closely. My thoughts are with the victims and their families as well as with the men and women of law enforcement who bravely responded and those that worked hard to rescue and keep safe those on the scene. While we do not yet know all of the details, it appears that our nation has suffered yet another preventable mass shooting, a tragedy that could have been forestalled were it not easy and legal for dangerous individuals to get their hands on the most deadly firearms. Inaction is unacceptable, and I continue to call on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to work together to protect Americans from the scourge of gun violence.”
