WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) announced she would vote against Senate Republicans' TrumpCare bill:

“With Senator Collins's announcement that she will oppose the latest TrumpCare bill, Republicans ought to withdraw it from consideration.  Once again we have a bipartisan coalition of Senators who are opposed to TrumpCare because it would be dangerous to our country and to the health of the American people.  As opposition continues to mount, Democrats and Republicans who have been working together to identify bipartisan fixes to stabilize our health care system ought to be given the opportunity to resume their work.

“At the same time, the Trump Administration must not be allowed to sabotage the Affordable Care Act through executive actions or purposeful shutdowns of the healthcare.gov website.  Now is the moment for Democrats and Republicans to work together to broaden access and provide certainty to families, care providers, and insurers alike – and set aside the notion of repeal once and for all.”
