Hoyer Statement on Senate Republicans' Latest Changes to Their TrumpCare Bill
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the latest changes Senate Republicans are making to their TrumpCare bill:
“Every time Republicans make changes to their TrumpCare bill, it seems to go from bad to worse. In spite of any changes being made, the Graham-Cassidy TrumpCare bill would still kick tens of millions of Americans off their coverage, make those with pre-existing conditions uninsurable, impose an age tax on older Americans, and cause premiums to skyrocket. It would gut Medicaid and harm our efforts to address challenges such as opioid abuse. I can’t imagine that any Senator who was wavering or opposed to the bill before would become any more likely to support it with the changes made overnight. It’s time for this charade to end: instead of continued failing repeal efforts, Republicans ought to work with Democrats to enact real bipartisan solutions to our health care challenges that stabilize markets and contain health care costs.”
