WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Senate Intelligence Committee concluded that the intelligence community’s assessment regarding Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election was correct:
“The Senate Intelligence Committee got it right in validating the intelligence agencies’ conclusions last year that the Russian government sought to help the Trump campaign and hurt the Clinton campaign. The President’s failure to acknowledge these facts continues to hamper U.S. government efforts to address Russian interference and to deter future attempts to meddle in our elections. In light of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s bipartisan conclusions, it is also deeply concerning that Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee chose to shut down its investigation and deny what we all now know to be true. This is an issue of rule of law and national security and must supersede partisan interest.”
