WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement:
“Justice Kennedy has served our nation faithfully and honorably on the Supreme Court, and I wish him well in his retirement. Two years ago, when Justice Scalia passed away, Senator McConnell declared that it was inappropriate for the Senate to act on a Supreme Court nomination in an election year before giving the American voters a chance to weigh in. In less than five months, voters will have that chance. Senator McConnell should abide by his own delayed process and allow the Senate of the 116th Congress to confirm or reject any nomination made by President Trump.”
