Hoyer Statement on the Retirement of Rep. Steve Israel

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the retirement of Rep. Steve Israel (NY-3): 

"I've had the pleasure of serving alongside Steve Israel for fifteen years, and I've come to know him as a good colleague and a friend.  As the Representative for New York's Second and later Third Districts, Steve has been a passionate fighter for hard-working Long Island families and an advocate for policies that promote equal opportunity for all.  As Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, he's been a leader for our party in the House and around the country, helping to shape Democrats' message and recruit talented candidates to serve their communities.  I wish Steve well as he pursues full-time his passion for writing, which draws on his creative nature and his skill for observation.  I join in thanking him for his years of service to the House of Representatives, to the people of New York, and to our country."
