WASHINGTON, DC – Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Beth Moten, legislative and political director for the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), announced her retirement:
“Throughout my years in Congress, I have worked with few people as capable, personable, or hardworking as Beth Moten. Federal civilian employees have had a champion in Beth, and as AFGE’s legislative and political director she has been a critical resource for me and for every Member of Congress who cares deeply about ensuring that we can recruit and retain the best possible civilian federal workforce in service to our country. My ability to represent the interests and needs of the 62,000 federal civilian employees in Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District has depended in no small measure on Beth’s ever-direct and ever-honest advice and counsel. More than an advocate, Beth has been a friend. As she prepares to retire after thirty-one years of exemplary service to AFGE and to our nation, I wish Beth – along with her husband Alan and her two children – many years of happiness in the future.”
