WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in opposition to House Republicans' resolution to overrule a District of Columbia anti-discrimination law andundermine home rule:
“I am disappointed that House Republicans passed a resolution this evening disapproving of a law to protect workers in the District of Columbia from discrimination based on personal health care decisions. The law was enacted by the DC Council and the Mayor, representing the will of the people they serve, and Congress should not undermine the District’s democratic home rule. It is the people of Washington, DC, who ought to set the policies under which they live and work, not a Congress where District residents are denied equal representation.”
