WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Republicans released the text of their Manager's Amendment to their health care bill that repeals the Affordable Care Act:

"The revisions to the Republican health care repeal bill released last night make the legislation even worse. Not only does it include bigger cuts to Medicaid and impose work requirements on new mothers, it further undermines Medicare’s solvency and also makes sure the wealthiest can receive their massive tax breaks immediately, making other Americans pay more for less.  Its giveaways to upstate New York politicians made in back room deals are shameful and reflect a desperation to pass a bill that more and more Americans do not support. Moreover, these revisions do nothing to mitigate the bill's harm to older Americans, targeted to pay more for less because of their age. These midnight revisions do nothing more than rearrange the deck chairs on a sinking ship and are even more reason for Democrats and Republicans to come together to defeat this awful bill."
