WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement responding to reports President Trump plans to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement:
“If President Trump withdraws from the Paris climate agreement, he will once again undermine America's global leadership and put national security, our economy, and public health at risk. The majority of Americans, U.S. business leaders, our military and intelligence communities, and public health experts all agree that climate change poses a serious threat to the world and demands a global response. I urge President Trump to not retreat from our responsibility to lead, especially after the U.S. successfully negotiated the agreement with 195 countries - including India and China - and reached consensus on actions to reduce carbon pollution, limit the rise in global temperatures, and mitigate the most serious impacts of climate change.
"While this Administration denies the real and serious threat of climate change and may walk away from our pledge to address it, Democrats remain committed to protecting our planet for future generations and will continue to advocate for policies that address climate change and protect our environment while spurring job creation and economic growth."
