WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released a report in response to a petition that alleges Colombia has failed to comply with labor provisions under its trade agreement with the United States:
"I am pleased that the Obama Administration has taken this first step to investigate Colombia’s failure to comply with the labor provisions of the Colombia Free Trade Agreement and support the Department of Labor’s call for follow-on action. Enforcement is critical to ensuring that American workers and businesses are not harmed by unfair competition. I urge the President-Elect, when he takes office next week, to engage with the government of Colombia to ensure that American workers are not unfairly disadvantaged."
