WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Rep. Sandy Levin (MI-09) announced he would not run for re-election:

“For 35 years, Sandy Levin has tirelessly advocated on behalf of the people of Michigan in the House of Representatives. It has been an honor to work with him over the years, including during his service as the Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Committee, to defend the Affordable Care Act and to strengthen Medicare and Social Security. He has been a leader in our efforts to ensure all Americans have access to affordable, quality health care, and in promoting tax policies that spur economic growth and benefit the middle class.

“I wish Sandy and his family all the best in his retirement.”
