Hoyer Statement on President's Call to Extend Middle Class Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement in support of President Obama's call to extend tax cuts for those making up to $250,000 a year:

“I commend the President for standing up for middle-class families by calling for Congress to act swiftly in extending the middle-class tax cut.  This is an area where Democrats and Republicans ought to be working together.  Instead, Republicans have held hostage the prospect of continuing a lower tax rate for middle-class families in return for tax cuts for the wealthy.

“Middle-class families deserve fiscal certainty.  I call on Republicans to set aside their demands that the wealthiest also receive a tax cut, at great cost to our deficit, and work with us to pass an extension for middle-class families to provide that certainty.”
