Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Announcement to Rewrite Fuel Economy Standards

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Trump announced he would rewrite the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Fuel Economy Standards: 

“Today’s announcement by the Trump Administration that it plans to rewrite fuel economy standards ought to concern Americans.  Fuel economy standards don’t just ensure cleaner air, they promote greater innovation and growth for our automotive industry.  Fuel-efficient vehicles save consumers at the pump and emit fewer harmful emissions, making them attractive to consumers both here at home and in export markets.  Democrats will continue to stand up for smart, forward-looking fuel economy standards as we continue to defend environmental rules that promote cleaner air and cleaner water for future generations.”
