WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark:

“I join in mourning the death of His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark.  As Prince Consort alongside Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, he spent the past forty-six years helping to represent Denmark and its traditions around the world.  As a proud Danish-American, I’ve been honored to welcome members of the royal family on visits to the United States and to the Congress, and I have always been impressed by their devotion and service to the cause of Danish democracy, European unity, and global human rights.  Denmark and the United States continue to stand together as allies in NATO and in our common cause of promoting freedom and opportunity around the world.

“I offer my condolences to Her Majesty, to Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, to Their Royal Highnesses Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and to all of Prince Henrik’s eight grandchildren and extended family – along with all the Danish people – as they mourn this loss.”
