WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the passing of Peter G. Peterson:
“I’m saddened to learn of the passing of Pete Peterson. Both during his time as Commerce Secretary and the decades that followed in finance, he was a leading voice for fiscal sustainability. Among his contributions to public life, he founded the Peterson Foundation in order to promote more responsible budget policies, the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and the Concord Coalition, in addition to chairing the Council on Foreign Relations. Members from both parties drew on his advice and wisdom, honed at the centers of American financial and economic leadership and influenced by his childhood experiences growing up in rural Nebraska during the Great Depression. I join in offering my condolences to the Peterson family and in celebrating Pete’s life of contribution.”
