Hoyer Statement on the Passing of Former Speaker of the House Jim Wright

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the passing of former Speaker of the House Jim Wright:

“Jim Wright lived a full and extremely productive life.  I counted him as a friend, supporter, and someone I admired for his commitment to people, his courage in pursuing his principles, and his skill as a political leader.  He served his state, his country, and the House of Representatives well.  To the end, Speaker Wright was focused on the issues and challenges that confront our people, the Congress, and our country.  

“From answering the call to enlist during World War II as a bombardier in the Pacific to his decades of public service on behalf of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Jim’s life was one he lived for others, and his legacy will surely continue as an inspiration to others who want to give back.  I join in offering my condolences to his wife Betty and to his children and grandchildren, and I thank them for sharing Jim with all of us who were his colleagues and with the country he loved so dearly.”
