WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the passing of former Congressman Leonard Boswell:
"I was saddened to learn of former Rep. Leonard Boswell's passing. Leonard was so deeply proud of his roots in the heartland and saw himself first and foremost as a farmer and a citizen. He served in our nation's uniform and in public office with a steadfast belief in the decency of all men and women and the importance of working together to build consensus and move communities and our country forward. I was proud to call him a friend.
"In Congress, Leonard worked tirelessly to help Iowa families, farmers, and small businesses get ahead. His work to prevent suicide among veterans continues to save lives and bring hope to military families. Leonard was known for working well with colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and he became a builder of bridges in Washington in order to achieve results for his constituents and for the greater good of this nation.
"I join in expressing my condolences to his wife Dody, to their children and grandchildren, and to the extended Boswell family. May Leonard's memory inspire all of us to follow his example of kindness and decency, patriotism and service."
