Hoyer Statement on the Passing of Beau Biden

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the passing of Beau Biden:

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Beau Biden yesterday. It is an unimaginable loss for his parents, Vice President and Dr. Biden, his wife, Hallie and their children, the extended Biden family, and the people of Delaware and the United States he served with such dedication and ability.

"As a Major in the Delaware Army National Guard, Beau deployed to Iraq and served with distinction. At home, he fought for justice for the people of Delaware and made the protection of children a hallmark of his term in office. Beau was poised to serve as a leader for Delaware and for our country for many years to come; now his legacy will inspire those who will follow him in public service.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the Biden family as they mourn their son, husband, father, and brother and remember Beau's generosity, his kind heart, and his resolve to see his community, his state, and his nation made better for future generations."
