WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the partial Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score of the Senate Republicans' latest TrumpCare bill proposed by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA):

“Senate Republicans continue to insist on bringing their dangerous Graham-Cassidy TrumpCare bill up for a vote this week even without having given the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) sufficient time to analyze its full impact on our health insurance markets, on losses in coverage, or how much health care costs would increase for consumers.  They have held only one hearing on their bill, and it already has opposition from senators in both parties, likely sufficient to ensure its defeat.  According to CBO’s analysis of a now-outdated draft, the Graham-Cassidy TrumpCare bill would lead to market disruptions and millions of Americans losing coverage.  It would cut $230 billion in funding to help low- and middle-income Americans afford health insurance, including cuts to Medicaid.

“This analysis is bad enough – but Senators Graham and Cassidy are already rewriting their bill in a desperate, last-ditch effort that is making it even worse.  Instead of rushing a disastrous piece of legislation through at the eleventh hour without more than a single hearing or even a thorough CBO score, Republicans ought to allow bipartisan efforts to resume aimed at stabilizing our health care markets and making coverage more accessible.”
