WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the one year anniversary of House Republicans passing their TrumpCare bill:
“One year ago today, House Republicans voted to take health coverage away from 24 million Americans, including 7 million covered through their employers, and raise premiums and out-of-pocket costs for patients and their families. Though they were ultimately unsuccessful in enacting their dangerous bill, Republicans have nonetheless spent the past year working with the Trump Administration to sabotage health care access in this country. They’ve driven up premiums through their flawed tax law, which undermines the Affordable Care Act’s ability to keep costs down – leading the CBO to estimate that premiums will now increase 10% annually. Their tax law will also cause 13 million Americans to lose coverage over the next decade. Meanwhile, the President has signed executive orders undermining consumer protections and allowing consumers to once again face discrimination based on pre-existing conditions.
“Democrats are committed to defending the Affordable Care Act, just as we did last year, and fighting to restore the protections and cost-saving provisions that Republicans and the President have sabotaged. All Americans deserve access to quality, affordable health care, and we won’t rest until every American has that access.”
