WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on President Obama's nomination of Loretta Lynch to serve as the next Attorney General of the United States:

"In nominating Loretta Lynch to serve as our next Attorney General, President Obama has chosen a notable leader, public servant, and distinguished champion of justice and civil rights. A two-time United States attorney who is currently serving as the top federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of New York, Lynch has the experience needed to continue the work done by Attorney General Holder and diligently uphold the rule of law. I join in congratulating her on her nomination, which, if confirmed, would make her the first-ever African American woman Attorney General of the United States. I hope the Senate will move through the confirmation process quickly, and I look forward to working with her."
