WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight on President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court:
“President Trump promised to nominate Supreme Court justices who would undermine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and overturn Roe v. Wade. Tonight, he made good on that promise by nominating Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who has a clear record of opposition to the health care law and women’s reproductive rights. If he were to sit on the highest court in our land, it could mean a return to a time when those with pre-existing conditions were uninsurable and the end of reproductive choice. In addition, voting rights, civil rights, workers’ rights, and the right of LGBT Americans to be treated equally are also at risk with his nomination. I strongly urge Senators on both sides of the aisle – especially those who have come together before to defeat efforts to repeal the ACA and roll back reproductive health care rights – to defeat this nomination.”
