WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on reports regarding the latest proposal from conservative groups to repeal the Affordable Care Act:

“After Republicans have repeatedly failed to overcome broad, popular opposition to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the Heritage Foundation and the extreme wing of House Republicans are trying once again to take health coverage away from millions, eliminate protections for those with pre-existing conditions, impose an age tax on older Americans, and threaten Medicare. The proposal expected to be unveiled tomorrow will be just as unpopular as previous efforts.  If Republicans bring it to the Floor, Democrats welcome another opportunity to make clear that the American people are benefiting from the law and do not want to see it repealed.

“Instead of sabotaging the law and insisting on repeal, Republicans ought to work with Democrats to stabilize health insurance markets and take additional steps to bring health care costs down for consumers.  Repealing or undermining the Affordable Care Act will only hurt American workers, small business owners, and their families.  Democrats will continue to defend Americans’ access to quality, affordable health care.”
