Hoyer Statement on Israel's Ground Operation in Gaza

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on Israel's ground operation in Gaza:

“Hamas has now rejected a cease fire and used innocent Palestinians as human shields for their rocket launchers, and yesterday they brazenly launched a raid against an Israeli border town using an underground tunnel.   Israel’s operation to clear out these border tunnels and other terrorist infrastructure that enable Hamas attacks reflects Israel’s right – and moral obligation – to protect its citizens.  I mourn the loss of life on both sides of the conflict, and I continue to stand in solidarity with Israel as the country takes steps to defend itself.”
