Hoyer Statement on House Passage of the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization and Amending the Stafford Act

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today following House passage of a bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which also amended the Stafford Act. The statement can be found below in both English and Spanish:
“I’m glad that the FAA bill the House passed today includes amendments to the Stafford Act that I worked to have added, which will help communities rebuild more resiliently and prepare for future natural disasters by investing in mitigation. This will give Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands – and, indeed, all Americans who are impacted by disasters – the chance to reduce their risks to future disasters as well as save taxpayer dollars in avoided recovery costs.
“When I visited the islands and Florida Keys in October, as co-leader of a bipartisan delegation with Leader McCarthy, I witnessed horrific devastation. However, I also saw the fierce determination of local communities to rebuild stronger. That’s what amending the Stafford Act will enable them to do.”

Estas enmiendas ayudarán a comunidades a reconstruirse más resilientemente, y prepararse en el caso de desastres naturales en el futuro por medio de inversiones en la mitigación.
