WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom HaShoah:

“I join in marking Yom HaShoah and remembering the six million Jews and millions of others killed in the Nazi Holocaust. As we reflect on that dark chapter in history, we recall not only the tragedy of genocide but also the courage of those who resisted and worked to save lives. Stories of heroism, from the Warsaw Ghetto uprising to the individual acts of risk-taking by neighbors and communities, inspire us still today to stand up to purveyors of hatred and intolerance in our midst.

“Anti-Semitism continues to plague our country and the world, and it is rising at an alarming rate. As Americans, we must never abide this evil in our country or sit idly while it rears its head overseas. We have a moral duty to those who perished in the Holocaust and those who survived to bear witness of its horrors to stamp out bigotry against Jewish people and stand against all forms of racism. Our House Majority will continue to do its part to combat anti-Semitism here at home and abroad and to stand in partnership with our ally Israel to ensure that the Jewish people can live safely in their ancestral homeland and wherever Jewish communities thrive. ‘Never again’ is our promise to keep together.”
