Hoyer Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins today, September 15, and runs through October 15:

“I join in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins today.  Since our nation’s earliest days, Latinos have played an important role in building strong democratic institutions, making our economy the strongest in the world, and fighting under our flag in defense of freedom.  Hispanic-Americans have played – and continue to play – a leading role in writing the story of America as innovators, entrepreneurs, business owners, elected officials, military service members, and artists.  The diverse and vibrant Latino communities of our country enrich all of us and will surely continue to enhance our national life.

“I’m proud to serve in Congress alongside so many Latino Members of Congress who are fighting for economic opportunity, civil rights, and comprehensive immigration reform, including leaders in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.  Together, we will continue to stand up for the equal rights and equal opportunity all Americans, regardless of background, deserve as they pursue the American Dream.”

Desde los comienzos de nuestra nación, los latinos han jugado un papel importante en la construcción de nuestras instituciones democráticas, han ayudado a hacer de nuestra economía la más fuerte del mundo y luchado bajo nuestra bandera en defensa de la libertad.
