Hoyer Statement on the Equal Dignity for Married Taxpayers Act

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the introduction of the Equal Dignity for Married Taxpayers Act, of which he is an original co-sponsor:

“I’m proud to join my colleagues today in introducing the Equal Dignity for Married Taxpayers Act.  Our bill would ensure that all married couples will be treated equally when filing their taxes.  The Supreme Court’s ruling last month in Obergefell v. Hodges represented a major step forward for equality and civil rights in America – and Congress ought to take swift action to update our tax code to reflect that progress.”
