WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today recognizing Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan:
“This weekend, Muslim-Americans across the country will mark the end of Ramadan and begin the festival of Eid al-Fitr. As prayer and fasting yields to festive celebration, I join in wishing ‘Eid Mubarak’ to all observing the holiday.
“America is a nation of many faiths and traditions, and our diversity makes us stronger. I have been deeply saddened by the recent attacks and threats against innocent Muslims in our country and around the world. Terror in any form or directed against any group has no place in America or in this world, and we must work together to end it. I hope this Eid al-Fitr will be an opportunity not only for Muslim communities in America to come together in joy, blessing, and hope but also for different communities of Americans to share a meal, discuss common dreams, and foster the bonds of understanding necessary for our grand experiment in multicultural democracy to work.”
